Project Background
Preliminary Design
Highway 417 Widening
Between 2002 and 2008, MTO completed a comprehensive operational review of Highway 417 (Ottawa Queensway) from west of Highway 416 easterly to Anderson Road (GWP 663-93-00) in response to growing traffic volumes in the City of Ottawa. This study evaluated opportunities to optimize the use of the existing facility, while providing for the efficient movement of people and goods. The Recommended Plan included widening Highway 417 by one lane in each direction (to a total of three lanes in each direction), from OR 174 to east of Walkley Road.
Highway 417 Structural Rehabilitations / Replacements
In March 2016, MTO completed a Preliminary Design and EA Study (GWP 4074-11-00) to review fifteen bridges and fourteen structural culverts along Highway 417 between the Aviation Parkway and Ramsayville Road. The study identified Recommended Plans for rehabilitation, replacement or removal of the structures to meet the long-term service requirements of Highway 417, and was documented in a Transportation Environmental Study Report (TESR).
